Full Biography
A name like Circo is impossible to forget and after two successful albums No Todo Lo Que Es Pop Es Bueno and En El Cielo De Tu Boca the band's creative and circus-like mind is sure to break boundaries in today's growing alternative rock scene. Formed in January 2001, Latin rock ensemble Circo was originally comprised of ex-Manjar de los Dioses singer José Luis Abreu (aka Fofe), Edgardo "Egui" Santiago (keyboard, accordion, melodica and electric guitar), and José David Pérez (drums and vibraphone). They were later joined by guitarist Orlando "Orly" Mendez, completing their current line-up. In 2001, the band made their first international appearance at the famous Latin American Music Conference (LAMC) in New York City. Since their debut, Circo has gone on to great success, beginning with their first album, No Todo Lo Que Es Pop Es Bueno. They received two nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards the first and only Puerto Rican rock band to receive multiple nominations and devoted themselves to touring throughout Mexico and Latin America, supporting veteran Latin rock acts like Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Café Tacuba.
In 2005, Circo released En El Cielo De Tu Boca. That release led to two Latin Grammy wins for Best Alternative Album and Best Rock Album. They supported the release with an extensive tour, including a performance at the 2005 edition of "Personal Fest" in Argentina, where they shared the stage with Duran Duran, Erykah Badu and Macy Gray among others. Their great international success led to the recognition of major label Sony BMG. With their new label, Circo are now working on releasing their first major label record, Cursi in September 2008. Ladies and gentlemen, el Circo is in town!
